What I Help With

Medicare Coverage, Simplified

Original Medicare only covers part of your healthcare costs. I help you find the right combination of plans to fill in the gaps — and protect your retirement savings.

Medicare Supplement

Covers the gaps Original Medicare doesn’t — copays, coinsurance, and deductibles. Standardized plans A through N make side-by-side comparisons straightforward, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Cancer, Heart & Stroke

A serious diagnosis can bring costs your supplement wasn’t designed to cover. These plans pay you directly, giving you financial flexibility when it matters most.

Dental, Vision & Hearing

Routine dental care, eyecare and hearing aids aren’t covered by standard Medicare — three of the most common healthcare needs in retirement. Stand-alone plans keep these costs manageable.

Who I Help

Individuals Turning 65 Soon

The 7-month window around your 65th birthday is the most important time to act. Missing key Medicare enrollment deadlines can result in late-enrollment penalties that follow you for the rest of your life.

  • Approaching 65

You’re 3–6 months from your birthday and want to understand your options before making a decision you can’t easily undo.

  • Already Enrolled but Unsure

You signed up for a plan but have questions about whether it’s the right fit for your situation.

  • Helping a Parent or Spouse

A loved one is turning 65 and you want to make sure they get the right coverage without costly mistakes.

Your Questions, Answered

Common Medicare Questions

The best time to start is 3–6 months before your 65th birthday. Your Initial Enrollment Period begins 3 months before your birthday month and ends 3 months after. Acting early gives you time to compare plans without feeling rushed — and ensures your coverage is active the day you need it.

The seminars run about 60 minutes and cover Medicare basics, enrollment timelines, the difference between Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage, Part D drug coverage, and how to avoid the most common and costly mistakes. Nothing is sold during the event — it’s education only. Spouses and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Light refreshments are provided. At the end, you’re welcome to ask questions or schedule a private consultation if you’d like to go deeper.

A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan works alongside Original Medicare to cover your out-of-pocket costs like copays and deductibles. You can see any doctor in the country who accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage is an alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurers — it often has lower premiums but narrower networks and varying out-of-pocket costs. Which is better depends on your health needs and budget.

If you’re enrolling in Original Medicare with a Supplement plan, you’ll need to add a separate Part D plan for prescription coverage. Even if you don’t take many medications right now, enrolling when you’re first eligible helps you avoid late enrollment penalties down the road.

Nothing. My services are completely free to you. I’m compensated by the insurance carriers when you enroll in a plan — but that doesn’t influence what I recommend. As an independent broker, I compare options across multiple carriers to find the right fit for your situation.

If you or your spouse are still working and covered by an active employer group health plan, you may be able to delay Medicare enrollment without a penalty — but the rules depend on your employer’s size and your specific situation. This is one of the most important conversations to have before your 65th birthday.

Part D drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans can be changed each year during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7). Medicare Supplement plans may require medical underwriting if you try to switch after your initial enrollment period ends — which is why choosing the right plan from the start matters so much. Some states, Indiana included, have a "birthday rule" which may allow a change without underwriting. John can tell you exactly how that and other provisions work.

Generally, no. Original Medicare doesn’t cover routine dental care, eye exams for glasses, or hearing aids — yet these are some of the most common and costly healthcare needs for people over 65. Stand-alone dental, vision, and hearing plans can make a meaningful difference in your annual out-of-pocket costs.
